In Southeast Asia, they are commonly used to clean metal objects and remove stubborn stains such as blood. Star fruit juice is rich in oxalic acid.

toxicity

the presence of caramboxin associated with oxalic acid, which make star fruit a toxic fruit in case of excessive consumption. Caramboxin is a non-proteinogenic amino acid, which stimulates glutamate receptors in neurons.

It is therefore not recommended for people with neurological disorders and is also risky to consume in case of kidney disorders. It is also not recommended to ingest the seeds because they can cause kidney problems.
